Tin has been used since c. B.C.1,500 as a material that has a strong antibacterial effect and is unlikely to cause metal allergies for humans. Tin has an excellent sterilization and freshness retention function due to its ion effect. Tin is harmless to humans and has almost no metallic odor, so it does not disturb the tastes of foods and drinks. Furthermore, tin tableware has a strong acid resistance and does oxidize, unlike sliver's becoming black, and it is relatively easer to clean it. 

Therefore since ancient times, it has been said about a tin material that "water in a tin bowl will not be spoiled but keep its freshness" and "If you drink sake etc. in a tin cup, it will become a refreshing one by being purified with a mellow taste. Nousaku's tin sake cup has gained its reputation that it makes sake more delicious. This mechanism is based on the relationship between tin and fusel oils. Fusel oils are volatile components that are produced when brewing alcohol, especially sake and wine. Tin has an effect to dissolve such fusel oils and provides sake with a mellow taste, in particular, on dry one. This effect would be further amplified if sake is in decanter for a while.
